    How do you eat control yours?

    I'm bouncing off the walls today folks. Even scrubbing the kitchen floor is looking like an attractive proposition to use up some excess energy! Help:p

    I cross train, but then I obviously must train harder than you! :P

    I took up martial arts in the spring and it's great. Totally different type and style of training so even though it's excercise it doesn't feel like it so I still feel like I'm resting. Any other rest days aren't planned, I'm just run off my feet with the rug rats (so if you need to burn off excess energy I'll gladly lend them to you for anything from an hour to a decade... )

    We'll I'm still hyper. I did commute by bike today (50km round trip) but that wasn't enough to calm me. ho hum, I guess I'll just have to listen to Coach Amadeus and put a bit more effort in on my training days to tire myself out. I did do all the girl stuff I had been neglecting. I now have a perfect set of french polished nails (how long will that last when the bike needs fixing), I dyed my hair (again, only to last until the chlorine turns it green) and baked a cake (there was nothing in the house for fed my carb needs in the morning session) Oh, and I may have just accidentally entered mr HM in a triple ironman ;)

    Go out with your mates to a bar and have a few drinks!



    And then feel the next day..............how good/bad that was. And hammer the roads!

    Some rest days Ill go for a short swim but on rest days or downtime the week before an event its often a hot bath, Epsom salts, laptop precariously placed in room with a set of films Ive been holding off watching until the inevitable. Intensely sad.

    Do you guys not work? How have ye time for films and 50k cycles on days off?:eek:

    Yesterday was my rest day I was in sooo much pain from the night before at Taekwondo, got a big right hand in the snout and was covered in blood .I then lost the rag and injured my toes kicking my opponent!!
    No running for a few days just the pool today!

    When I get in from work at about 6.30 and have to make myself dinner sometimes I thank god its a rest day and I have nothing to do.:D

    Yeah, me too. On the days I don't run I get home at 6pm, make dinner, potter around, eat dinner, watch some tv and then it's 10pm and my eyes are closing so it's time for bed.

    When I run, I get home at 6pm, put something in the oven for 20 mins, turn it off, go out for a run, get home, reheat food, shower, eat then it's 9.30 and I'm lucky if I can stay awake till 10pm.

    I also try to meet friends, while I still have them, as I've mostly definitely been neglecting them since I started my marathon training.

    I have a weeding this afternoon and my biggest concern is getting to the pool for a 500m before I leave. Sad Sad Sad.

    Swimming before gardening ? ;) assume that was wedding chief - either way a couple of lenghts in the pool are a must

    I thought Mr HM had dodgy knees and couldn't run marathons anymore (never mind a triple)

    As for the time factor I do a few early morning runs during the summer - you get a great buzz from coming in from a run just as everyone else is waking up and you feel really smug all day! Failing that I'm self employed so I can skive off for an hour or two in the afternoon knowing that I'll be catching up on e-mail or whatever in the evening.

    I think the impact the training has on your body reduces over time as well. When I was going through my 1st training program I was eating like a horse, my legs were in threads the whole time and I was exhausted by 10 at night. Now I still eat like a horse but I can go up and down stairs without wincing and stay up late like a proper grown up...

    On further reflection.... the above is okay for the one day off a week, as fatigue and joy at having some spare time is a novelty. But for the 3 week marathon taper, this turns into 'sitting at the edge of the couch flicking from channel 1 to 150 and back again over and over again'. Driving the other half mad, so she screams 'Go for a run' (but I can't...).

    A marathon taper also re-educates one as to what the rest of the world does bewteen 5 and 7pm every evening. Watches terrible TV, that's what! There's nothing like a marathon taper to reinforce ones love for training.

    I can imagine this is all 10 times worse for an Ironman. Not looking forward to my taper in a few weeks. The worst part of a marathon.

    Taper madness is a nightmare. You're fizzing with energy and no way to burn it off and all the doubts set in ("have I done enough training..."). The flip side is that it's the only time I feel like people think a marathon runner should feel - like I said full of energy, legs feeling strong, you feel like superman and that's quite nice!

    Just the 7.2 mile swim. It's all Collier's fault. He wants to do the run, Lindi says she'll do the bike so Mr HM will do the swim. The sports psychologist (don't ask) did say I should plan something for about a month after the channel attempt because swimmers commonly become depressed round about then. I was thinking dinner and a shag, not swanning off around the world on a swimming jaunt but hey, when opportunity knocks.

    I'm feeling much more normal today.

    So true! I remember wondering before starting my first marathon training plan where I would find the time to fit in 40+ miles a week of running into (what I thought was) a hectic lifestyle. Now I realise how easy it is (and do more than 40+ miles per week) - you just watch less rubbish on TV and spend less time pottering about doing a whole lot of nothing.
