Passive house

Has anyone got any experiences with a passive house? We are going to build a two story house, 2600 sq ft. We are waiting to get planning permission, and I am looking into all of our options - timber frame, block, heat source, etc.

I am interested in the idea of a passive house, but I would like to hear from people that have gone with a passive house in Ireland, specifically:
    • What kind of temperatures does the hot water reach?
    • How warm is the house? What about in the middle of winter?
    • How much would the ESB bill usually be?
    • Is it worth it?

I think the biggest worry I have, is that it will be cold in winter, and we won't have enough hot water.

in order for it to be considered truely passive it should be certified by teh passive house institute.

The whole design and sepcification will be put through a data package called the phpp (passive house planing package)... this will show you exactly the info you are looking for so you will know before you turn a sod all the quantity factors.

the phpp is extremly specific to your build and its use.
