    Hi Folks,

I have noticed that for some bizzare reason cut and paste does not work for me in finder. If I use command + x it has no effect but I can use command + c to copy no problem. Any idea why this is?

Im using a Mac Mini with a windows keyboard if that makes any difference, I have mapped ctrl to command and it works fine for copying but not pasting which is completely bizzare. Any feedback welcome.

    Dave

    New to Mac OS?

You can't Cut in finder. I don't really use it so I don't mind...

There was a thread on this a while back if you have a search for it. I came up with a somewhat makeshift solution for someone. I found it annoying myself when I first switched from Windows, once you get used to it you get faster at working around it and it's not a big deal. But I think it should be implemented. It won't be because Apple is stubborn.

    Hey Folks,

Yep it looks like the only way to add cut and paste functionality is to get do some scripting in the background and integrtate it into Finder such as these http://ilari.scheinin.fidisk.fi/findercutandpaste/

Relatively new to OS-X but niggly little things like this certainly do take the shine off Apple. Good products but its like they left a few loose ends which is not the impression you get from a Mac fanboy. I mean cut and paste is almost a universal functionality that everyone takes for granted, why would you not include this and force your users to carry out two actions (copy & paste then delete) to achieve the same thing????

I think Jobs is an idiot for not including this even as an optional feature that can be enabled by the user, if he wishes to convert windows users small things like this go a long way esp for the not so tech savy user. For me it smacks of not giving a **** about users and forcing things on users with the same like it or lump it of 80s Microsoft. Hopefully some of the more tasty Linux distro's that are coming out now coupled with Dell's softening toward Linux will put some pressure on Apple to listen more closely to their users. They will certainly need this feedback if they want to be as pervasive as their product range suggests.

"Today I'm really thrilled to show you a new feature we've been working on. This feature is going to revolutionise how you interact with your files, music, photos...whatever you use your computer for. I'm really excited by this, it's called dragging and dropping.

It's so easy to use. What we've realised is that we're not using the full potential of the mouse. Why just point at files and menus when you can move this stuff around just like moving pieces of paper around your desk. It's so easy - just hold the mouse button and drag the file into where you want to put it.....boom! Just like that!

Hey and if I want to copy the file instead of moving it, just hold down option on the keyboard......boom! Simple!"

Drag and drop only moves files within the same volume and not from one volume to another (where it copies it instead) and holding down the option key will only allow you to move one file at a time. I guess minor feature enhancements these too much effort just like putting an option to have copy and paste in your context menu.

between volumes use  as your modifier, and yes it works for multiple files - as does opt on the same volume.

Ah, but try dragging and dropping with the keyboard. I use Cmd-C and Cmd-V a lot with text, I can't see why it shouldn't be implemented in the Finder. I've heard the argument about a system failure while a file is cut but not yet pasted would result in the file being deleted, but it seems to work fine in Windows and isn't that what Time Machine is for anyway?
