He has a point. The Brits pumped $279 million into their Olympic effort... Its a valid argument that they have paid for sucess.

I'm sure there are far better reasons to laugh at a multitude of Countries at the moment.
Take France for example, they speak funny. We say 'How are you' they say 'Ow err you'.
    Hilarious.

$279m aussie is about 56cent though isn't it?

when you look at what the aussies spent and consider that there are only 15million of them, the $279m doesn't look too excessive. it is also making p for years of serious underfunding in a lot of sports.

I think it's much funnier to laugh at the Aussie coach who was bitter about losing to a British swimmer. He made a joke about the British swimmers not being bad considering they come from a country without much water or soap.

Good call Jack. It fair got my dander up the other night hearing the Oz swimming coach bleating for more public money. What’s more important - a few more lumps of gilded tin? or roofs over the heads of the homeless, and a longer life expectancy for our indigenous people? Fair suck of the sav, some of these people have let the chinese bun-fight really screw up their priorities. If they need more money -get a commercial sponsor, like the tennis players. Maybe Davenport could be persuaded to kick in a few more bob?

    WTF is a dander?

You laugh at Austrailia, I'd rather laugh at butterflies.

Hahahaha, butterflies. They think they know, but they don't! Wait 'til they find out, they'll be like !Noooo!" and I'll be all laughing and stuff.

    Yeah. :D

They really don't like losing do they?

    http://blogs.theaustralian.news.com.au/jacktheinsider/index.php/theaustralian/comments/putting_a_cap_on_price_of_gold/

Apparantly Britain can only win golds sitting down or going backwards.

Who cares really? Where's the sportsmanship gone? I really hate all the slagging and snide remarks that comes out in a big event like this.

Pighead won't be laughing at Australia until Ireland manage to overtake Azerbaijan in the Olympic Medal Table. It'll be a long time before Pighead laughs at our Aussie friends.

    A quote down the bottom:

    Bill Grieve
Wed 20 Aug 08 (07:19pm) That is a great idea Jack,AFL as an Olympic sport,,i can see it now Australia Gold,Ireland Silver, then i come a cropper
    who the hell wins Bronze....
    Jack the Insider
Wed 20 Aug 08 (08:02pm) The Kiwis, Bill. They’ve got a bit of a local comp going. They’d get a serious thumping though.

Is this why they're recruiting in the west?

It means 'to get angry'. Probably comes from the Dutch “donder,” meaning “thunder.”
