Heres a review on it, doesnt look too bad and bridge cameras are a good compromise when you are starting.

I used a similar camera (the S5800) before I got my SLR and it was brilliant. The 10 X optical zoom is really great and compact too. You do have some creative freedom as well because you can adjust shutter speed. The flash is a bit to bright sometimes, that'd be my only complaint but you can use a flash diffuser if that annoys you. It really is a great little starter camera.

I believe the S8000 is much more advanced with a 18 X optical zoom. Sounds like a great buy :)

+1 to that. I had the older s5000. Never let me down. And would leave the Eos 450D which I have now standing when shooting indoors. Here's a few shots taken with the s5000:

It's the camera i am using at the moment and i have nothing but good things to say about it.

Sure, an adaptable flash would be nice but that is the only issue i would have with it.

I've just been comparing the s5000 and the 450D (both in auto mode) indoors. No comparison. the s5000 is streets ahead. Only way the 450D catches up is when you use a Speedlite flash.
