Just got the letter about fees in the post this morning.

Fees for this year are €983

Might be of use to new first years. I'm not sure when they are sent an information pack.

I just had a quick look on the way out the door but I believe so.

The fee last year was about €900 + €70 for the gym.

Isn't that the USI subscription? The 8euro.

Sadly yes. If I wasn't so lazy I'd walk to the Fees office and demand not to pay it. But online payment is just too convenient.

My heart bleeds for you, what with the free rooms and the free food.

    Where? I want some.

It should probably have been 'your' free rooms and 'your' free food, and not the.

And you could have had some but you decided to have fun in second year.

It says on my letter: "Please arrange to have the fees shown on the enclosed Fee Payment Form, or the first installment thereof, if applicable, paid before 15th September 2008."
Though I think jmccrohan is right

  • I'm going to sound incredibly thick, but I thought Ireland had free fees for undergrads? 983 euro is a hell of a lot better than UK fees, but a a grand a year is hardly 'free'

Excellent. Less guilt over my head now about taking a few extra packs ;)

yeap yeap they are free, there will be lots and lots at the Freshers Stand during Freshers week, and from my office all year long :D

What's the difference to the student? It's still money that needs to be paid, whatever you call it. In English unis admin etc is covered under 'tuition fees'. I don't really care that much but it's definitely misleading to say that 3rd level education is free when the registration fee is almost a grand. It's much, much cheaper in other countries. I think in France it's about 400 euro and the students protest about it all the time!

When you pay the tuition fee (repeat, non-eu or something) do you have to pay the registration fee on top of that?

    Think so

Nope, it's included in the overall fees.

So does it cost €70 for the year and then you can use the gym whenever you like or is there an annual fee apart from this?

Does anyone know if paying half fees can be spread out like the full fees are...i.e pay part in September and part in January?

    Fees make me feel ill!

I know going to college is both exciting and stressful but you must realise that there are about 2000 other students in the same boat as you. They are not going to leave you all out.
