    Hey,

I train MMA at the moment but I'm thinking of doing something extra probably on my stand up game.

There is an ex pro boxer here in galway that does lessons twice a week for 20e a month... speaking from experience would you recommend to do these lessons in boxing or should I have a look around for a kickboxing / muay thai club?

    Open to suggestions

Boxing is brilliant for mma and probably the weakest element of irish mma, most mma clubs do muay thai but few do boxing! in the states the wrestlers tend to focus on boxing so standing they can head hunt and stay standing due to not kicking then take it down if its not working for them...

after all most KO's are by punching-im not saying not to do the others but 20 euro is cheap for private lessons... i charge 30 euro for a half hour.. and thats not expensive either! but im a personal trainer and thats standard rates...

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.

Well if you're going MMA in galway you're probably not going to find any better jitz or wrestling then the club your at. So taking suplpementary boxing sounds like a good idea. Sure give it a month and see if you feel the benefits.

no its just my striking i'd like to work on, used to box when i was 17 but thats 5 years ago now (i feel old lol), forget every single thing about it now and my hands are v slow.... I cant imagine it wud be private classes, 20e for 8 sessions i'd say its group classes... but the guy teaching has a good fighting CV... gonna try it for a month or 2. Maybe throw myself into the novice connaght championships later this year.

    cant hurt

    cheers for the advice guys

Best bet fergal is either head down to Pete's place in GalwayBlackDragon, I can make any introductions you need and give you times/days you should go down, or if you want to work boxing only I can put you in touch with the Galway Boxing Club who will resume in September, I trained in both to improve my striking and I can recommend them.
