I've seen a very clean/ solid/ respectable looking orange 1302 in the UK with no engine for £500. I think I know someone with an engine.

Would it prove to be a real POS logistically and financially to try and get it back here?

there are companies that will collect cars in the UK and deliver them here. Include that in your cost. If it's solid it'll be worth the punt but as we all know, pictures can be deceiving or at the very least, "economical with the truth". ;)

Popping an engine in will be no problem :)

It would want to be in good order to make it worthwhile.500 sterling is around 600 eu here,id go for it if the car is good:)

It'll double in price by the time you get it back, depending on location.

I wouldn't mind it doubling or more because I wouldn't be speculating. I'd buy it to keep for a while at least. I know there's no point in going to all that trouble if it turns out to be a little cheaper than buying a proven car locally.

I'm more worried about practical things like shifting it I haven't spoken to my mate yet about an engine but I want to crunch some numbers on it before I bottle it again!!!

Here if is. Is my stupidity showing again??? http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=480645

Doesn't look too bad, although even hi-res pics don't tell the full story. Did you ask for any?
Looks like it is a 1302S (1600, disk brakes) but I could be wrong - I know very little about 02/03s

€1200ish isn't a huge gamble, not many around for that money.

Randy Carlson is the only man that knows how to take pics to sell a car :D

It looks fine but I would change the one pice windows for the originals as they leak if not fitted right.......mind you, I'll be fitting one piece windows ot the cal look Beetle whenever I get around to building it so I'm not the best one to give advice :D
For the money I think it's a good buy. It costs about €450-€500 to bring it back on a truck but even taking that into account it's still cheaper than buying one here.
