Patination Oil On Lead Flashing

Can anyone tell me who is responsible for applying patination oil to new lead flashing on a roof. Is it the carpenter or the tiler?
Engineer on snag list said it needed to be applied. Builder says it was applied.
How would I know if it was applied or not?

I was reading on the container that it should be applied immediately after laying lead and certainly not later than the end of the day. Is there any point in applying it now (8 Months later)?

What are the consequences if it wasn’t applied at time of installation?

    Thanks in advance
    AleoN

The lead installer is responsible for applying patination oil to new lead flashing on a roof.

There would be no stains on roof.

    No

Grey staining of roof tiles / slate. Silver watery vertical stains, from lead to gutter.

Who ever put up the lead is responsible for its immediate treatment with patination oil, be it a roofer or a plasterer.

By now the marks on the slates/tiles would be evident if it had not been applied.

Forever the optomist, yes there is always a point in finishing a job properly, just wipe clean all the oxidisation from the lead before the first application, two coats should do.

Patination oil is applied to attempt to slow the oxidisation of the lead and thus reduce the risk of staining your slates/tiles. The life of the flashing can be prolonged by using the oil.
