Sorry if this is the wrong forum (Fairly sure it is but I couldn' t find a suitable forum) But I am looking for my PRSI number for my college and I have heard that you only get one when you are working, is that true? I am 18 and don't work so just wondering do I get issued one anyway now that I am 18. Also where can I get it if I should get one.

    Thanks

All new babies get PPS numbers. My daughter has needed it for various forms throughout her 9 years. Revenue will sort you out.

Your PPS number is a follow up to the PRSI / RSI number of the 80ies. Oriiginally only required by just two state bodies I.E, the dole and tax office but now 62 different bodies have an interest in this number including: An Post, An Garda Siochain, Dept of Enviornment, Financial institutes, Pass port office etc. The PPS number will be the mainstay of the fortcoming chipped national Identity card.

Your school will have it. It's needed to register students with the DES.

Farmers have to declare new born calves and pigs with herd numbers almost immediatly with the Dept of Agriculture once they are born, likewise children that come out from a woumb at birth will be branded with their PPS numbers.

That'll allow for more efficient sorting of the duds into the soylent bins.

    Great.

Branded as they come out of the womb? Better than the doctor slapping your arse I suppose.

In our school the DES needs PPS numbers to register students for exams. Has been that way for a few years now
