I want to get into event marketing/managent. Have a degree in arts management and finfing it hard to get a job in that area so want to broaden the scope a little to general events.

Am out of college for 2 years now, am currently working in a marketing promotions company.

    Hi Fiona.

I'm afraid i can only tell you where NOT TO GO!
But that might save you precious time.
Sounds like from your college background that you will eventually come across Right Fit......"The Media Specialists".

PUT THE PHONE DOWN, AND BACK AWAY SLOWLY.

I dealt with them several times over a two year span after I came out of college. They are truely terrible.

Firstly, I rang about a job and arranged a meeting, the girl i was dealing with Moira seemed like a nice enough girl, although that particular job came to nothing. Ah well.
I dealt with her again when I spotted a job for Radio Sales for new and specialist alternative radio station. ie PhantomFm, I rang her immediatelly and said I really wanted a stab at this job. Unfortunately I didn't cop that you needed a full clean drivers license for the job.
But not to worry Moira filled me in by practically laughing at me down the phone. I mean I felt one inch talk, like the cute girl in school just turned me down at the school dance in front of everyone...... ....she tore into me, and ridiculed me over the phone. I'm not being over senstive here.

She must have known she was being a cnut, cos later that day she sent me a semi apologetic email telling me "not go give up on my dreams, that they'll come through one day....and by the way if any of your friends are looking for work, don't forget to point them in my direction"....the cheeky fcuking bitch. The penny obviously dropped with her and she realised the "media industry" is small and would obviously never contact her again, instead tell people what a shight bag she is!!!

Months later I rang about another job, at this stage Moira had moved on and I was dealing with another young lady, forget her name. Again seemed OK. But after the meeting she didn't have anything for me. IN FACT THE JOB I WENT IN TO HER TO TALK ABOUT WAS ALREADY GONE DADDY GONE! But that didn't interest her, she just wanted to check me out, regardless of the fact I had to take a sick day off work.

Anyhoo, all she had for me was sales, sales, sales, and I was aching to get away from that soul sucking job. I explained this to her and (politely) turned down every job spec that involved sales, hard sales, soft sales, up selling , etc etc etc. So she told me, her collegue was really intersted in talking to me, as he had also seen my cv in their fax machine. I said fine, as long as its NOT SALES.
In walks her work collegue, introduces himself,(David), and says "I've got some great sales jobs you'd be perfect for!".
I laughed cos I thought he was joking, I was THAT adamant with her that I didn't want any sales jobs!!!!! But she obviously wasn't listening to me.
    End of meeting.

Three weeks later, I get a call from her whilst in work.
She's got a great job for me in a marketing company in Dun Laoighre, and can she put my CV forward for it. Yes please, and thank you very much. I was delighted that at last they were actually being productive.

A week goes by, I ring the office, I leave messages, I email, NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING. In the end I finally catch her at her desk.
So she starts off saying everything is fine in that "sales job in Santry" she's just waiting for word back from them. "No", i said, it was a marketing job in Dun Laoighre. The fcuking clown must have thought I was someone else, probably why she took my call after avoiding me for a week.
"Oh eeemm oh eehhh oh yeah I see your cv now, eemmm the job in Dun Loaighre?!?!?....ehhh, well you are WAAAAAAY to under qualified for THAT job, I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU would be interested in the job, you haven't enough experience!!!"
SHE FCUKING RANG ME ABOUT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!

I have never dealt with them again, anyone I have dealt with in there is a fcuking waster!!!!
The agency is owned by Samantha Judge, she used to be in charge of sales in Spin1038, and thats about as close to media as you're gonna get with these jokers. AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE.

I think what makes them so sh1t, is that they don't even have to try. Because they are the self procclaimed media specialists, every student that comes of Ballyfermot, DCU, etc etc, is beating a path to thier door thinking its the start of their long and productive media career.

Hope that helps a little bit. Sorry about the rage, I just hate people wasting my time :(

    All the best.
