Is there a release date yet?

i think it was due out the end of the year but they put it back a few months cos of beta testing

Could maybe be hearing some big news about it soon. Sony recently sent out loads more beta invites, including starting the beta for the first time in Japan, and also recently sent out invites to all the major games press. Could mean they're gearing up to finally launch it, or at least move it to open beta.

From what I've heard, you get your own apartment, decorate it with things like TVs (for watching the video media you have), stereos, general furniture. You can invite people over to watch said movies with you.

You can meet people all over the public areas, and set up online games 'in person'.

You can go to cinemas, clubs etc. and go to meet people for Home-based games like bowling.

    Thats my general understanding.

XMB? This isn't a replacement for that. This will be an extra icon on your XMB that takes you to a SecondLife-like area.

If you're talking about the Xbox blades, I could be swayed to agree with you, however, the new avatar and Vista-style interface they are changing it to are God-awful looking.

    OMG!did playstation3 win:D?..............

Hmm...home sounds a bit sad tbh, if you want to go bowling with your friends there's plenty of places in the real world to do so.

My feelings exactly. I can think of no reasons to use home at the moment.

I dont mind the idea of a nice graphical "home", but the fact is that PSN isnt failing because its ugly, its failing because its hard to organise your contacts, sort out games with them (and them alone, no yankie teens etc), filter good and bad people and basically it badly needs a few neat innovations stolen from the Web 2.0 / Social networking sites. I mean, it would seem obvious to plagerise them.

Instead, both the big boys are copying the Wii, it seems.

Eeerrr no it's not, your list of friends is'nt messy all in the same place, up and down nav is all thats needed. Also how is it hard to organise games?, you press the PS button mid-game, check what your friends playing, if its the same game you can message them and sort out where to meet, granted it was'nt like this a month or so ago but this in on the console now!!
