Need help, buying TV

Mods, feel free to move if in the wrong forum.

I'm buying a smallish LCD TV for the bedroom (17"-20") and I'd like it to be compatible with the current DVB tests.
I understand that the transmissions are currently in the same format as the French ones?

So, if I buy a TV that has a "TNT" tuner (for France) built in, then I should receive the channels here (assuming that I can get reception)?

Pixmania have loads of these TVs on the French site http://www.pixmania.com/fr/fr/59/xx/xx/8/3/criteresn_BA00001371.html
If I buy exactly the same model no. here in Ireland, will it still have the correct tuner built in, or does this only apply to the models sold in France (even though they would be the same model no)?
    I'm confused...

You should differ between TNT mpeg2 and TNT HD mpeg4. If you read only tnt tuner there is only a mpeg2 decoder on board.

Most certainly not.... TNT (Télévision Numérique Terrestre) is the National Digital Service for France. It is not a spec for MPEG4. The French Government did stipulate to retailers that televisions will need to be MPEG-4 HD compatible but only from December of this year onwards..... in the meantime, they can sell what they wish I would imagine. So MPEG4 is what you are looking for not TNT.

Be very careful what you buy off those sites (unless you speak french) you could buy something that you think has an mpeg4 tuner which in actually fact is the integrated DVD player that plays mpeg4 video formats.
Keywords HDTV MPEG4 DVB-T............. and always check the tech spec on the manufacturers website to see that tuner can support mpeg 4.

The same Model Number also can be different spec in different countries. There may be an extra country code in a longer version of the model number on a rear label, rather then the "summary" Model number the shop or web site uses.

Some Models for TNT rely on a Neotion Module supplied by TNT (not with TV) that does do MPEG4, but is a slightly poorer solution.
