19th centuary 1870 onwards

I'm interested in Family History. I've recentely been given some old photos, but some are very faded. Any advice I'd appreciate. I'm based in Cork.

Many thanks
Gerard:D

Might be better to post in the digital dark room asking for help we could make a challenge out of it :D

You have family photos from seventy or so years before photography came about? O.o

On a summer day in 1827, it took eight hours for Joseph Nicéphore Niépce to obtain the first fixed image. About the same time a fellow Frenchman, Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre was experimenting to find a way to capture an image, but it would take another dozen years before he was able to reduce the exposure time to less than 30 minutes and keep the image from disappearing… ushering in the age of modern photography.

That would be the nineteenth century though.
Anyway, be interesting to see some ideas.

Eddie Chandler may be interested in these photo's

He has written a book on the history of Photography in Ireland, but also has an interest in old photographs.

I can ask him next time I see him if you like?

O.K. I have acess to a selection of photos from about 1870 on. They are of mainly ancestors, so I have no intention of moving them on. If you have someone who's interested in seeing them. No prob.

I also need some advice on getting 8mm on to disc.
