Getting into Neuroscience?

Im currently studying Biomedical Science but I dont really know where I want to go with it, what I am interested in is getting into the area of Neuroscience, whether working in a lab or going into research in this area. But I dont know how to go about getting into it?

What qualifications would I need, I know UCD have a Neuroscience undergrad degree but they are not taking transfers into it. Would a Masters in this area along with Biomed be any good? Or would even the Biomed degree alone get me into this area?

Not getting very far with my online research so any info would be appreciated, thanks.

I have a friend who got into neurobiology research through a psychology degree at NUI Maynooth. She then did her PhD. in a behavioral psychology lab that was branching into more biochemical brain research. I can give you some names to contact by PM if you'd like.

A biomed degree should be more than enough along with a masters. It would probably be enough to get into a PhD if you've a good mark. Neuroscience is just a branch of biology, it's all just genetics, biochemistry, physiology, etc. focussed on one organ. Yes there are psychological skills to pick up but these are easy enough to understand.

There's a masters in neuroscience in TCD for graduates who want to move into neuroscience, it's essentially the undergrad degree in neuroscience (which I did and it was excellent). TCD also have a 4 year PhD course where you do general neuroscience classes and lab rotations in first year and then do a three year research project in one lab. Have a look at the TCIN page for details or contact them directly (which will probably be more informative).

A lot of psychology departments do neuroscience (as mentioned above NUIM do, which is where I'm based now) so have a look at what they offer (PhDs, masters, etc.). Psychology departments are good places to look as they often want someone with biological lab skills to do neuroscience research, even if they haven't done neuroscience/psychology as a degree.
