    Hi folks

thinking of changing my laptop (15" inspiron jobbie) and i think id like something lighter and more portable, so a 13/14" laptop is what im thinking.

Am i correct in assuming the highest res screen im going to get is 1200*800?

Ideally id like a 2ghz+ core due and Geforce 8400 and 3 gig + ram, is the xps1330 my best bet or are there any other manufacturers out there doing something similar?

I have an XPS m1330 and it is a machine I would recommend up to a point. I recently noticed a problem with the graphics card which when under stress (playing Civ 4 primarily) overheats and shuts down the laptop. This seems to be an acknowledged flaw of these laptops. If you're not a heavy gamer it will probably be ok. Worth doing some checking before buying. Otherwise it would meet your requirements.

Max screen size is 1280x800. You will only get the value of 3gb of ram as 32 bit windows OS can't see much more than 3-3.5Gb of ram.

Only things apart from dell that I know with a 13" is an Apple Macbook...
Hp do some 14.1" like the... HP 6910p Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz T7500 2048MB .. depends on your own personal choice really..

ive seen a fix for that, not sure its something youd want to undertake but it was on laptopreview forums i think, involved artic silver 5 and a thin sheet of copper

Cheers Cyrus. I am probably going to have to do that but I think I will have to get a new MB out of dell before I do. At least that way I won't have caused damage to a new MB before I do the mod. I found somewhere on ebay that will sell a correctly sized piece of copper. I imagine I could probably get it locally but I'm being lazy..
