    Hi
Sorry for the newbie style question.
I've 80GB of mp3s on my laptop and I'd like to know the best way to keep them backed up.

Should I just get an external hard disk and setup a schedule to back it up (every day)
Or would I be better with a RAID (Im not too sure what this even is?)

And where would be the best place to by something reliable but cheap(ish)

    Thanks
    M

external hard drive would be a good idea. Raid will work too, but its harder to setup.

160GB external drive for 60€. If you shop around you could probably find a better deal !

I'd say an external hard drive would cover your needs.

There are many forms of raid but the one you'd be talking about is called mirroring. In basic terms it sends data to two or more hard drives. The data on these drives would then be identical in every way and as long as one of the drives survives your data is safe.

External Hard Drive the best option here

defo external drive is best option....... if your mirrored raid array fails it too can have disastrous consquences... also the external drive at least has a better chances of being ok if your pc should ever pop a transistor or two?

    raid for dummies

Its an expensive, nerdy ordeal. just get an external.

I use an external also to keep everything on, but got into the habbit of burning to dvd as i go, i keep the new stuff in its own folder until theres a
dvd's worth then burn it and move to the main music folder, easy for me as ive been doing that since i ripped the cd's etc but for you it would involve
burning 20+ dvd's  i've had drives fail on me in the past so really would not like to have to rip the cd;s and fix the tags and album art on 100gb's of
    music again.
