Hi, I'm thinking about going to Berlin for a few days at the start of September. I have read that its a great city to visit, full of museums and stuff.

Anyway I'll be bringing my SLR with me and plan to take loads of photos. Is it a good place for photos? Can anyone give me advice whether I would be safe from pick pockets and the like while having my camera out on display? Will probably stay in the generator hostel so if anyone knows how good the security is there it's be great!

I've been there twice and loved it both times, as for the safety of SLR you'll be fine everywhere except around the Sony-Centre with is the most "touristy part of Berlin".

Also I highly recommend taking the "Insiders Walking Tour", is long but everything.

    Hi there,
Was there for two weeks in the summer and it's a great city. Your best bet is to take one of the city tours. They are quite cheap! Some really really good sites, I went on the tour REALLY hungover and still enjoyed it :p plus it's in English and German.

Their war museum on the main st in Berlin (which I cant remember the name of now :) ) is really good along with their art museum along the river.

I was dragged to the zoo too & I actually really enjoyed that :o . Try going around 3-4ish in the day as they feed the big cats around then and that was something else to see! They practically do it in cages right in front of you in the indoor complex.

Nightlife wise it's good too if you know where you're going. Try drinking/eating earlier in the Eastern part as it's really cheap and them head out for the nightlife in the Western part. For the life of me I can't remember the names of any of the nightclubs as I was nearly always well on my way on arrival :p .

The food over there was second to none and the service was great, they are genuinely nice to you if you get me.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it as much as I did :D

Berlin is a fantastic spot. Spent my erasmus semester there ten years ago so I have a soft spot for the city. Went for a citybreak there in April and its still a fab spot and great value for money. We stayed around the Alexanderplatz area (East city centre) in the Park Hotel. It was very convenient for everything. Hotel was very basic but did the job. Ive always found the city very safe, even as a young 20year old student exploring alone, so I think you will be fine.
