Hi. Not sure if this is correct place to post so apologies if not.

I am travelling to Montenegro with my son next month and need internet access. I am unsure of wireless availability and have been warned that available network at venue gets overloaded (there will be over 1500 people at this competition).

I am trying to learn more about devices I can plug into laptop and use via mobile services. Can anyone tell me how this works and if there are any good deals round? I called my msp Vodafone and the guy I spoke to hadn't a clue about everything.

I would be very grateful. I only need this for 2 weeks so don't want to sign any year long contracts.

    thanks.

most hotel's and cafes have free or low cost wi-fi hotspots.... for wi-fi you need to pay for its generally 1 or 2 euros an hour.... i'd say montenegro probably would have similiar setups

    thanks.

We'll be in a hotel room. essential that we have non-interupted access. Was just in small town in Austria and there weren't any wireless networks except at venue and only when organizer was in there. so very sporadic. Created a real problem for us.

    Need something I can control.

but if the hotel has adsl or cable net coming in all they need is a wireless router for you to connect to........ask the hotel manager if he could assign you a temporary network access key to log on the their wireless router. failing that you could bring your own wireless access point and plug it into their ethernet and connect via that

INMARSAT BGAN offers internet access anywhere. Bit pricey tho ;)

I know I'm sounding dreadfully pathetic (and useless) but I thought I could buy a plug-in device that would connect to satelittle broadband?

It's only for 2 weeks and I don't have much money:(

thanks for being patient with me.

I would reccomend a 3g wireless card, but its 65€ to activate roaming. Then you have to pay a carrier fee on another network (unless there is a vodafone,o2,three) Last job i was in one of the sales gusy was using it in the states for 1 week to check email. 3,000€ or something daft like that. Hotel wireless is uasually pretty decent i find.

there should be no fuss with a hotel wireless network. how vital is this? you make it sound life and death...on a budget.

it's vital. He's competing in a chess tournament and needs to be in contact with his coach who will not be there.

TBH, unless you are willing to pay big bucks, you will have no alternative other than using a hotel/internet cafe network.

It might be cheaper just buy flights for the coach that have internet access while you are there.

Try contacting the hotel before you travel and see what kind of internet set-up they have... then try to plan what you can and cannot do.

its only chess. its not like its very bandwidth intensive. I dont see why a wifi hotspot wouldnt do the job.
