Walked in through my front door yesterday to see my OH sitting up with a massive smile on her face and a letter in her hand. Not a common site for me as letter usually equal bills and usually warrant a different reception at home from the missus.

She handed me the letter and started to say how excited she was that we had won so much money. €715k was the amount stated and all we had to do was send off our bank details and a copy of our passport and the nice people in Spain would lodge it directly into our account. Happy days. Except I wasn't born yesterday, but my OH might as well have been from her reaction. She said she honestly never heard of this kind of scam, hence her excitement, and total embarressment when I explained the scam to her. In her defence it does actually look official (headed paper, receipt numebr, reference number, ph number etc).

Anyways I was thinking about her blatant stupidity and then started to wonder, Is there anyone else out there that is still gullible enough to be taken in by this kind of thing?

Hmm, I got that letter through my door this morning.

I loved the "Don't make any official announcement of your win for fear of people making fraudulent claims for your money' or something to that effect!

I've only just moved into my current house, trying to think where they got my address!

You'd be amazed how quickly common sense goes out the door when people think they've won something huge.

    Cul the herd tbh.

On the upside, when you lose a fortune at the races, you could explain it away to her by telling her the story of the men you encountered on the way home from work. Those bastard wallet inspectors :(

yea its a strange one as my wife lives in my house (ie the house i grew up in) but as we are only newly married all her post goes to her mothers house so we are baffled as to how they got the address

I suggest you prepare a similar document from her doctors or similar, advising her to cook you dinner every day, and satisty all your sexual needs on demand without question...

Once can only hope evolution moves on while your darling wife gets left behind, for the sake of humanity.

You cannot win big without doing anything (You even need to buy a ticket and have some luck for Winning Steak in order to get on and win your cars and holidays). Common sense is suppose to prevail however seems to be lacking a disturbing amount these days.

    True,
A friend of mine thought he'd won 500k recently and got annoyed when we said it was a scam, he said we were "Jealous" etc. He was all set to send away his bank details and so on, so we had to get his dad to intervene... I couldn't understand how he was so blind to the obvious!

well when i lived with my Ex for a few years we noticed that Eircom had always spelt her name wrong on all the billing addresses.. and all the scam mails we got ALL had the excact same spelling mistake as eircom.. not making any accusations but the address on all the scams and eircom letters were Identical down to comma's spelling mistakes/ missed cap letters on some street name and everything

Now normally I'm in favour of a little wife bashing, but you're all being a bit hard on the OP's OH here. You need to see the positive side to her gullibility OP. I mean if she'll swallow that....... she'll swallow anything.

    Whiskeyman has the right idea:

    Not entirely true.

The older generation are very at risk from these kind of things.

My Nan nearly sent one of these off before my mother happened to mention it to me.

A year or so later an elderly neighbor of mine got caught up in one of these, he sent a **** load of money for "bank clearances" and "transfers" etc. Ended up putting his whole family into debt. Poor fucker topped himself when he realised what he'd done :( (He had actually bought a lotto ticket in the country where the letter supposedly originated though, hence making it seem a bit more plausible)
