Hi My eldest has just been offered her place in college. Arts degree in St Patricks Drumcondra.
the Euphoria is starting to wear off me now and reality is starting to kick in.
I've read the key posts on grants and fees and to tell the truth i;m still confused/ I was hoping someone could give me some answers to the following question please.

We were looking at the grants form and my wifes and my income come to approx €47,100 so that would put us in the level 2 maintenace grant. Now our eldest worked partime (weekends) last year up to June and earned €2400. So that now puts us in the level 1 maintenace grant but ssia accounts interest also has to be added on so it looks like we will not be entitled to any maintenace grant. So what do we have to pay?

    Fees ?
Student service charge? (is this registration fees or are they extra)
Anything else That anyone knows of

    Hey Berberis,

I assume you're calculating your income limits correctly and are looking in the 'less than 4' children category?

If you are and you're still ineligible (and you should check with your Council/VEC in case there was something you missed) you would have to pay the Student Services Charge which is €825 per student. Each college may have additional levies put on top of this for things like gym fees, student buildings, USI levies etc.

    Thanks for the reply Myth.
Yea I was calculating it with the other childern included.
But looks like the partime job my daughter had last year, will go against us.
I did'nt think her wages would be counted, but there is a section in the grant claim form for it.
Is this Student Services Charge also known as the registration fee.

Yes, the registration fee is the Student Services Charge.
