DS games you own, and are planning to!

I'm surprised saying this seeing as I have a 360 but I think the DS is my favorite console at the moment. I've never liked hand helds but while I was off inter-railing it got a lot of use and not just by me. My friends fairly went at it too. So if this has been done before sorry but otherwise I thought it would be a good idea to list our DS games and give some mentions to upcoming titles.

Having gotten rid of FF3 and Braintraining I'm left with four games:
New Super Mario Bros. Fun and addictive. I found the mini games to be a pleasent surprise. I didn't even know they were there until I'd almost cleared the main game. The main game was good fun and had a couple of spots that I had to keep playing over and over and over. It had a great feel to it.
Advance Wars: Dual Strike. I chose this over the newer AW as I'd played BHR for the GBA. I also didn't like the new gritty looking maps and units. Brown with dull green and a smathering of differently textured brown doesn't do it for me. Dual Strike lasted me a good long while and although I've finished the campaign there's still loads of unlockables and alternate modes to play.
Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass. It's Zelda. That's all I need. The controls are very simple but they work. Some parts are monotonous. Anyone who's played the game knows the part I'm talking about, but otherwise it's good. Not the best but playable and fun. I should have it finished in a day or two.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. I bought this on my travels actually. I found a new copy that was fairly cheap. I've played some of the old ones briefly and I've heard good this one so I figured why not? I haven't started into it yet but I'm aware there is another released before this one. I like to play games chronologically so I might get the other first. Probably not though, I'm strapped for cash right now and I'm going to need something to keep me going once I finish Zelda.

I'd pick up a lot of titles that I like the look of but news of Chrono Trigger DS blots out everything else. I'll pick up Final Fantasy IV DS as I really liked the original SNES version. After that who knows?

You've got a nice selection of games there. Some of the best the DS has to offer.

Check out The World Ends With You. Looks great, plays great, fantastic story. Just finished it last week and I have that post great game blues :(

I'm REALLY trying to get into TWEWY but to no avail as yet, the pin system seems a lot to take in and the combat seems like I'm just prodding away, also I hate the protaganist. It's got to get better though, right? The reviews were crazy good. I own these:

    New Super Mario Bros
    Phoenix Wright 1, 2, 3
    Professor Layton
    Advance Wars: Dark Conflict
    Animal Crossing: Wild World
    Apollo Justice
    Mario Kart DS
    Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
    Metroid Prime Hunters
    Starfox Command (rubbish)
    Yoshi's Island DS
    Kirby: Canvas Curse
    Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Favourite games are probably Zelda, Mario Kart and Layton. Future buys are gonna be Sonic: Chronicles and maybe Ninja Gaiden and Moon

It took me a while to get into at the start as Neku was just such a pain in the arse. I stopped playing it for a few weeks because of that. Without wanting to spoil it too much - he does get better ;)

The pin system works great once you manage to get a group of them together that work well. Some of them work so well that you actually need to bump all the battles up to the hard setting. Some of the others though are fairly worthless. You do need to spend a bit of time exploring it.

I really enjoyed Ninja Gaiden for the first couple of hours. But it did get very tedious. I'm not sure if it was the game or just me. Must go back and finish that...

I see you don't have Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow. Definitely one I'd recommend.

    Great thread OP.

I agree with your opinions. I always thought portable gaming was well rubbish might be too strong a word but just not for me. I always preferred the home console. I remember the time the DS launched and apart from Mario 64 DS, the game selection looked pretty poor. But a year later when Nintendogs first hit europe i bought into it. The control scheme for that game was brilliant and it hit home then what kind of new games were possible on a handheld. Not just poor versions in every way to console games.

    Anyway here are my games:
New Super Mario Brothers - Great game, loved it. I much prefer the 2D marios. Advance Wars Dual Strike - Only played through a third of the campaign. Good game, must get back to it soon. Phoenix wright 1 - Heard alot of good things. Good although not a great story and damn frustrating at times. Tony Hawks American Skateland - Similar to the TH playstation games. Great stuff. Anno 1701 - Best DS game ive played. Great RTS game. I have raved about this on boards for ages but very few agree:) Mario Kart - Great online when you get some non snakers. Resident Evil - Havn't played yet... Zelda PH - Fantastic, no need to say anything! Castlevania Portrait of Ruin - Really like this. This is the game i'm playing at the moment. Almost done with it. Elite Beat Agents - Yet to play... Pokemon Diamond - Played about 8 hours. Left it and hav'nt gone back. Another Code - Good adventure game. Hotel Dusk - Not a bad adventure game also.

I'd love some RPGs. So i'm looking forward to either DQ 4 or FF 4 next month.

FF IV is great :) First time I've played through it myself. It's ever so slowly starting to fill that post TWEWY gap..

That and Metal Slug 7. It's not the best in the series, but not too shabby either.

Yeah i didn't get FF3 because i like to have a good story to aim for in RPGs. Especially these old school ones that require alot of grinding. So will probably get 4 as its the first game in the series that attempted a proper story or so i've read.

Oh yeah one other game (i'd rather forget):

Undercover: Dual motives - Huge let down, the back of the box went on about how it was an adventure game set in WW2. The story is a shambles.

    Cheers Chumpski!
I've scoped out WewY and I'm not sure about it. I like my RPGs so I might just give it a shot. From the gameplay I've seen it doesn't seem like there is much to do on the part of the user. I watched Yahtzees review of it and that may have coloured my opinion some. I don't agree with his opinions on Rpgs but from what he said I'm left unsure. Wouldn't mind you telling me how wrong I am. :p
Sonic Chronicles looks very interesting. I was a big fan back in the day and also not so far back. Sonic Adventure 2 on the DC kicked ass as far as I'm concerned. Everything after that though, no. This is the first I've heard of it.
Kirby, Mario Kart, Layton, FFIV, Hotel Dusk, Chrono Trigger, I'm wracking up a bit of a list.

For me everything after Sonic 3 and Knuckles was rather dodge to be honest ;)

The new Sonic Rush games are worth playing. Actually I stopped half way through Sonic Rush Adventure to play Phantom Hourglass last year. Should probably start that back up again.

As for TWEWY..there's plenty to do. I finished it and really got the impression that I didn't spend long enough doing everything.

The item selection is great. You don't buy armour etc, you buy different brands of clothing. Certain brands are in style (or not) in certain areas of the city, giving you perks or having negative effects.

Bah, there's no point in me going on about it any more. Just play the game if you get a chance! It's better than all the games on your to play list (Bar Chrono Trigger!) And they're all great games.

Now that is a bold statement. Well, why not. All that praise has to come from somewhere but FFIV comes first for me. I have good memories of that game.

Now, *summons DS owners*, come and share!

I've gotten through a few but I dont hang on to them so Now I'm down to

TWEWY - Just phenomonal, I'm about half way through and really into it, without any spoilers, Neku no longer annoys me and I have a reasonable handle on the combat system. I would say that at times it feels a little linear but it makes such use of everthing the DS has to offer that it has blown me away more than a few times.

New Super Mario Bros - I was actually quite disapointed by this, some levels are very short, some additions are just a bit pointless and I've only felt challenged by the Second half of world 8. I got this as a foil to TWEWY, something I could pick up when I needed a break so perhaps I haven't been dedicated enough but this will be traded in the near future. I might try and get my hands on Mario World for GBA for my handheld retro platformer needs.

Phantom Hourglass - I've finished this now, what can I say its top class, Great Characters, really good control system and the cut scenes made me chuckle more than once. A must have.

a few other honourable mentions that I have played and traded

    Mario Kart
    - Absolutely played this to death, it was just great, only got rid of it when I got MK Wii.

Sonic Rush - Really excellent, solid, FAST and fun 2d Platformer, kinda regret that I didn't keep this one.

for the future? Chrono Trigger and Prince of Persia, but I'm hoping to get back to my Wii on a much more regular basis after the summer.

I got Tiger Woods 08 for 14.99 in Smyths the other day. Great game for the price imo.

    Hotel Dusk
    Etrian Odyssey
    Final Fantasy 3
    Final Fantasy 12
    TWEWY
    Zelda
    Rune Factory
    Harvest Moon
    Super Mario 64
    Trauma Centre
    AW:Days of Ruin

The next on my list is Chrono Trigger. Whens the release?
