Any reasons a DSTT won't work with a specific DS?

A friend at work was telling me the DSTT he got for his DS Lite wouldn't work.

I thought he may have messed up in putting the firmware files on.. e.g put them in their own folder as opposed to on the root.. so I said I'd have a look at it for him.

So got it off him and put it in mine.. and it worked fine. He said something along the lines of 'No Roms Detected' when he put it in his, but I got no such error.

Is there any inconsistencies in the DSTT that I should know about on different versions of the DS / DS Lite (maybe depending on firmware version etc.)?

There might be dust in his cartridge slot... give it a blow and try and clear it out.
Do regular DS games work OK?

    I'd assume so.

Asked him to bring in his DS tomorrow to figure out if there's a problem. I just assumed he didn't have it seated in correctly or something like that.

There's no specific inconsistencies depending on DS or anything anyways.

I haven't heard of this myself. Every flash card I've tested myself works fine between different DS consoles. Even lites and phats.

Sounds like there's some issue with his slot 1 alright. If it's dirty, blowing in it is only a temporary solution. What you really want are swabs and some alcohol.

Yeah, will find out the full story tomorrow.

I'll let you know how I get on.. I'd imagine it's dust or something in the slot. Might ask him to try a standard game in it and see if it works.

My friend had a similar problem with his DS Lite - he tried someones card (wasn't the DSTT) and it would not work on his DS.

He went balistic and tried contacting Nintendo haha without really thinking about it but eventually he ordered the same card and it worked when it arrived.

Also when I tried my GFs DSTT card on my DS tonight it didn't work the first time so I just turned the DS on and off and it worked fine.

OK lads.. very odd one here!

It's an old style "phat" DS (model number is NTR-001 if that helps).. tried a standard DS game in it (Mario Bros 64) and it recognised it fine.

But when I put in the DSTT, it actually doesn't recognise it's even in the slot. Just goes to the menu screen (and has the standard 'Pictochat', 'Download DS Play' options etc) and it says "There is no DS Card Inserted" despite it being securely in.

This seems very odd.. as it worked fine in my DS Lite yesterday.

    Any suggestions?

That used to happen on my old phat too, Brian. Blow at the slot and give it another go.

    Blow harder. :D

Seriously, I had that problem with my phat. There were times I'd plug in my R4 and I'd get the DS menu with the "No DS Cartridge Inserted" message. Pop it out, blow, pop it back in (jesus... there's something I never thought I'd say in public) and it worked.
