So after the last two weeks of rain, the sun finally came out on saturday so went out to Currabiny woods in Cork for a walk and down to the Lee fields for a walk at sunset (to work of the dinner).

Heres some shots, taken with my 400D and kit lens (18-55mm). All C+C is welcome if anyone can take the time :)

Thanks all, great to hear that i might be on the right track with my photography. Only started a couple of months ago, and still have very standard kit (just the 18-55mm and 50mm 1.8, although i have purchased a few filters and a tripod too)

Thats definitely something i will do id say, you're the second person to say it to me.

Haha, was really funny actually. This little guy was just sitting on a leaf and didnt move an inch, even when i pulled the twig out from the branch so i could get the shot. . . great model :D

#6 wasnt actually a great shot, not a great exposure i guess. But, i liked the composition so decided to make the most of it and tried to go for a kind of comic book effect (just removing all the clarity from the image). I quite like it, but i see where your coming from. Thanks

Thanks everyone for the C+C. Keep it coming :)

I'm a huge people movement person rather than landscape but I really love 3, it's very striking!

Huge people movement? Sounds like hard work and fun to watch.

    Well done Kieran
Nice set of photos. Hard to believe you got that with the kit lens. It makes me wanna go out and prove that you can get those results with it. Well done. you've thrown down the gauntlet.

I love the wasp in #1, great shot.

I love the wasp! The space on the right kind of gives you the feeling that he's ready to pounce!

    And 5 & 8 are brilliant too.

Its not a wasp, i think its a hoverfly. He just sat there for ages while i tried to get a good shot of him, and using the kit lens you can imagine how close i had to get to take a picture this close-up.

Thanks for all the comments. All seem pretty positive which im delighted about. If anyone has some criticism it is also welcome ... as long as you dont hurt my feelings too much ;)

Hmmm... Something I was thinking about earlier... no.2 is just feels a little bit depressing... but that's just me I suppose! Still some great stuff here man.

And wtf is a hover fly? I thought it looked a bit odd... I've never seen one before.

    Family Syrphidae
    Order Diptera

Hover flies have a characteristic flight pattern - hovering in one spot, moving suddenly forwards or sideways, then hovering again. Some people mistake hover flies for wasps or bees because of their black and yellow-striped abdomens and also because they can occur in huge numbers. However, they are actually members of a fly family that have evolved as wasp and bee mimics. They are important as pollinators of plants.
