"TinEye is an image search engine. Search the web for images using an image"

    www.tineye.com

Anyone seen this or used it yet ?
    Any successes/hits ?

I have a couple of portraits that I know a few people are using on blogs or as facebook avatars etc etc (with my permission of course :)) and it completely failed to pick them up ...

ahHa, but they're socially aware captchas !, by using them you're helping decipher scanned old manuscripts that OCR software isn't able to work out. I forget what they're called, there was a slashdot piece on them a while back.

The concept is great and on select examples you'll find good hits. When i tried them out i felt (and they readily admit) that they simply haven't gotten enough of the web indexed to be comprehensive and hence really useful. I guess they are in beta still so can't complain too much.

oops, must have missed it when it was posted before. You don't need invites anymore though, its in open beta, anyone can register.

-edit- ahHa, reCaptcha is the captcha tech they're using. More info: http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/08/14/2311253 -edit-

same for me. I would have thought wikimedia commons would be an obvious place to index.
