Ps3 Questions

Have a 360 but am seriously considering a ps3 mainly because most of my friends have bought one and swear by it over the 360 (please dont turn this into a fanboy war...please)

Can anyone answer me the following?

1.On line is free yep?But how does it compare to Live??-Id be lucky to get a chance to play online once or twice a week and cant be bothered to pay another years sub for 1-2 hours a week of online gaming.

2.Can I upload avi`s/mpeg`s to the hdd and watch them from that instead of the usual that I do with the 360 ie. hook up the external drive and watch them from that??

3.What advantages does it have to have Linux installed?Any interesting apps that are essential if I do go down that road--emulators,better browser,can keyboard and mouse be used with linux??

4.Ps3 has a browser but is it any use?Can I use a mouse and kb for browsing the web?

5.Anything else I need to know about the ps3??Any hardware issues?Do I need anything else to get me up and running "out of the box" so to speak??

6.Anyone changed from a 360 to PS3 and regretted it??Or the other way around changed from a ps3 to a 360 and regretted that?

Online is free yes, it's not as good as live although i'd rather money in my pocket.

yes you can, you can also get programs running media servers on your pc so you can stream your media wirelessly to your ps3 over a wireless network, check out TVersity.

haven't really delved into the world of linux on the ps3 but i'm sure there are advantages, running a web server i suppose could be one of them.

don't really use it that much, but a keyboard can be used not sure about the mouse though. can't use keyboard and mouse for games which is a shame for FPS'.

there are a few failing blu-ray drives but no where near the extent of the catasophe that is the RRoD.

Thanks for the reply Cremo.

The fact that you can transfer movies to the hdd is a big seller for me.Ive a 120gb drive on the 360 thats next to useless...unless the "fall" update changes that.

Also the free online gaming is a big thing aswell.

Aswell as the browser with mouse and kb--Have a 11 year old who hogs the pc most nights My own browser would be handy!!

Any idea on any good deals--Gamestop allow €230 against a PS3--Used one is €339.00 without games but then again I could trade in my 360 ones for some PS3 ones.
Recommend me some essential games for the ps3?

Not for one second, sold my 360 to my friend and a month later it got the RROD!! PS3 all the way.
