I wouldn't be too keen on this. NDAS stuff doesn't use TCP/IP - you need proprietary drivers installed on each machine that will be connecting to it, which will be a pain in the ass if you're using anything not running Windows I imagine. A proper NAS box would be much better.

    ahhhhh right ted.

so it's a propriertry system like the netgear "toaster" NAS box and doesn't support UNC?

I got one of the Malpin NAS boxes just under 2 years ago and a 250GB HDD in peats. Whole kit cost me €165. The first box failed on me, but was replaced. Ever since then it has worked flawless (odd crash--req reboot). I'm on a 3Mb/3Mb Breeze conn. so the download when I'm out'n'about is quite good...in the region of 2-300K a sec.

    Thanx for the info.

i have a targa 500gb NAS hard drive setup on ethernet and shared via my file server. we all have full access to it...no need to install software on all pcs...only file server... once ya set it up on the first pc... using your other pcs simply goto network places and browse your network to find the pc you installed the drivers on....and click on it and then right click on the drive and map it to each pc.... this also gets over the vista incompatabilty issues with nas drives being connected to xp & vista machines at the same time. only drawback is my server needs to stay on 24/7 .....but then again i never turn it off anyways (usually its set to defrag & backup at night). Linux should be able to map drives from a windows machine too
