using R4 card with DS???

Can anyone tell me where to get understandable instructions on how to use the R4 card with the DS?

Everything is i double dutch!!!

Have tried to follow the instructions and when I put the card in ds it says loading... and nothing!!!

What am I doing wrong???

Download the latestst firmware off the R4 website. Extract the .zip file and copy ALL the files in the new folder to the root of your microsd card. Put your game,music or video anyware on the microsd and it should work fine.

I have tries doing this several times and it comes up as a black screen with white writing saying loading...
nothing happens!

what am i doing wrong?

What firmware did you download? The latest is 1.18

What size MicroSD card did you get? Maybe you are using a MicroSDHC card in an old R4?

i downloaded the latest 1.18 from the R4 website. I bought the whole lot as a pack including the micro sdcard. It is 4gb card.

Hmmmmmmm..... I googled ezbuyxtreme.com and found this link saying that they are selling Revolution II cards rebranded as R4 cards (so they are not authentic R4s). You might be able to get it working by using an older version of the firmware (it looks like 1.16 is shipped on a CD with your cartridge - did you try that?)

It doesnt actually say what version is on it! Its all very confusing. There is no instructions with it or anything. it says the file was created july 2008. Thats all I can find out from the cd!

Sorry....yes I tried using the one on the cd and I just get the same. Even when the card is formatted and blank it just says loading!

Might be a long shot, but have you tried giving the micro sd card a bit of a clean? Or even the slot it's going in to in the r4. If it's saying loading then the r4 is working, there's just something going wrong with the data being transferred from the SD.

yup....just tried that! Also put it into card reader adaptor and tried it that way....still nothing.im about to give up!:mad:

From the R4 Wiki: SDHC Note: There will be no such thing like firmware with SDHC support. This is classic chicken-egg problem. R4DS doesn't know how to access HC cards and can't read firmware from it. SDHC support requires upgrade of internal R4DS firmware.

Long shot kfk, but do you have a spare 2gb SD card lying around?

Hang on, when you dropped the firmware files onto the sd, did you transfer them over in one folder called english? Or did you take the contents of the english folder only?

The root of the sd has to have a system folder, moonshell folder, and then two files called ds_mshl.nds and ds_menu.dat. Those files can't all be in a folder.

You can get them cheap enough from dealextreme.com. But if you're already able to transfer data to it via your pc then it should be fine.

Unless for some reason they put an old r4 into your package instead of one that supports SDHC. In which case your 4gb card wouldnt work.

How exactly are the files arranged on your micro SD card? What is in the root directory, and what folders do you have?

okay...im going to format it and start again!

So I open the english folder and put those 4 files in the root and not just the english folder?
Should i put on a mp3 or something to test it or just leave it at that??

That is exactly what you would do. If you dragged the english folder over then that's why it's not working. Yay, solved!

I have one more Q....can I play an old gameboy game on it? It sounds really sad but I love Parasol Stars and want to play it!!!!

Glad you got it working. Had me stumped there for a min...

Yep you can emulate GB games on it perfectly. Check out an emulator called Lameboy. It runs Gameboy Colour stuff really well too.

Edit - here's a link to Lameboy. You have to sign up for the forum to download. But it's really worth it as they have a lot of stuff worth checking out

sorry....i wont ramble on but the old gameboy cart doesnt fit the ds so how do i transfer the data from the cart????

Emulators use roms.
