    Hey all,

Looking for a decent rehearsal room in dublin. Temple Bar Music Centre is pretty dismall as the drums are brutal. Amps are buz boxes and it aint too cheap either.

Anyone know of anywhere a bit better?

    Cheers

I made a note of this one but have n't tried it yet. Seems good, judging from the site. It's in Stoney Batter.

I went out to Rebel Studios TODAY to look at it as I'd heard good things and band needs a regular place to jam.

    This is what they claim:

    Features

    * 7 large, spacious and clean rooms
    - 7 small rooms
    * Completely soundproofed - I could hear a band rehearsing clearly outside
    * Highest standard equipment - Entry level kits, standard amps, but new. Some rooms were a mess!
    * 24 hour security - ...

All the rooms were empty bar one. All unlocked. We couldnt find any staff. One room was in use so we didnt go in. Reception area empty. No one answered phone. The noise of the 1 band jamming was clear throughout the whole place. We could have robbed all their remaining amps at leisure as no one was around and the place was unlocked!
I will not be rehearsing there at all. Very disappointed.

I jammed at Applerock studios on Friday.

The funny thing was that I was in Musicmaker trying out a few guitars and I asked one of their staff for directions to the place. A look of total horror went across his face!!! :D He then proceeded to slag the place off, basically saying it was disgraceful. Not what you want to hear before an eagerly awaited jam!

Anyway, I have to say, against all odds, I quite liked the place! Sure it's a total dive, but I found that actually added to its charm in a rather punk/rock'n'roll way. After all, some of the greatest bands have played in venues that are way worse (CBGB) so I'm not really that arsed.

Maybe it's just me though! :p

I'll give a few of the other rehearsal studios a go and shall report back to you all.

The band I'm in rehearsed in Applerock a few times. While it's a far cry from the Hilton :D , it was reasonably clean, and the sound proofing was fairly ok. Why is it that rehearsal rooms in Dublin seem to be a hit and miss affair ?

The people who use them have a lot to answer for as well. On some occasions on entering the Applerock room, we spent about ten minutes cleaning up after the previous users.

A good idea might be for the owners of rehearsal rooms to charge a deposit ( 20 euros between 3 or 4 people would n't break the bank ) on top of the normal charge, to be returned after an all clear inspection of the room when the band are leaving.

The Irish seem to have the attitude "if it's not mine... f--k it !!"

They got new kits in Applerock. Rebel is very good and new, although I don't like their amps.

I use rebel myself mostly, but I have to say the worst rehearsal room is definitely temple lane. i mean where are you supposed to park?? just for that reason alone.
