Can someone please explain in simple terms whatever methods must be used to work these out?

I presume there is some sort of set of procedures for these depending on whethere they are first order or second order. Any help at all ASAP is greatly appreciated.

It all depends on the type. Can you post up an example of one you're having trouble with?

    ^ +1,

Some can be solved if you have initial conditions using Laplace transforms and partial fraction algebra (although the use of these depend if you can rewrite the equation into a form where it can be transformed)

Example and Laplace table of transforms here:

From what I remember, Laplace Transforms are the way to go.
