Golf vs. Cars

Just wondering how much of a bearing everyone's golf has on their choice of car.

Would you consider a car that you couldn't leave your clubs in the boot of?

I was considering an Audi TT a while back until someone told me I'd have to let the back seats down to fit a set of clubs in it. As it is, I have to put the driver in seperate to the rest of the bag. My brother, who is in the trade, told me that fairly regularly he'll have a customer very interested in a car, until he (always he! :D) tests the boot for his clubs. My bro knows that with certain cars, that's the loss of the sale.

Pretty much any car will fit a set of clubs and a trolley somehow, but how important is it that they go in the boot?

Might be interesting to know what people drive too. Mine's a 3 series coupé.

I have just this second come off carzone.ie. I currently drive a VW Passat. Which has a boot the size of a small house:p. I'm looking to down size for economical reasons, but I constantly find my self thinking, damn my sticks won't fit in that Clio! Ideally i'd like a wee car with a big boot. The search continues. If you feel like swapping your 3 series Coupe for a well battered Passat let me know, comes with Go Faster Scrapes and 4 free tees, stuck in the passenger air vent! just let me know:P

I've also been thinkin bout this lately!

Currently have a bmw 3 series which fits my tour bag, a bag for clothes and other bits and pieces pretty comfortably in the boot.

I did go for the 4 door rather than the coupe for golf reasons and cos I'm also in a band so amps and my two guitars take up most of the boot and back seat.

My previous cars were a VW Golf and a Fiat Punto - both 2 door and swore I'd never go back to constantly trying to squeeze stuff in!

That said, I have been admiring some pretty savage sports cars lately and it is annoying when you think of the problems you'd have with golf clubs.

I have a tour bag and a powakaddy. If I did go for something small and sporty I'd have to go back to a carry-bag and somehow maybe leave my big bag and powakaddy in my homeclub - but that would be hassle finding storage for it and taking all my gear out of one bag into another etc. Plus, I've always preferred a bigger bag on a trolley...

Audi A5 would be ideal. Looks slick and sporty, but you could fit a fair bit in it.
But since I haven't won the lotto recently.... ;)

Always been a VW Golf driver. Not the best for golfers(oh the irony...) I must say. Driver and 3w have to come out of the bag to fit everything in the boot. :(

That's true of the majority of cars in fairness. Even if they barely fit in, I take em out anyway rather than force them in and have pressure on the shafts.

Yea ive an A3 and the driver and woods all have to come out to fit them in the boot. Would really need an estate to get over these problems

My golf car of choice is my old vectra hatchback which can fit the big bag, trolley, shopping, small elephant, etc. all at the same time.
My main car is an A4 cabrio which is tight but can fit the trolley and bag once you take out the woods and umbrella... but then no room for a mouse in there so it can be awkward.

I'd be looking at a Citroen C5 Tourer (estate) if I wanted a perfect golf car...

is yours the 3 door? I've a 5 door and everything was fine until I got the Ft-3, it doesn't fit in the boot in the bag and has to go on the back seat.
Other woods fit in the bag fine though.

It would be a consideration for me in future, though not a deal breaker on a nice car.

I was told that the new Honda Civics can take a golf bag comfortably, although I have yet to see this myself. Anyone know?

Guys not sure how yee pack your boots but I can fit a Ogio stand bag - with 14 clubs in it and caddy car (non electric) into a boot of a 3 Series convertible without any crushing. Driver also in the bag (TM Superquad). Shoes and sports bag also fit in. Clubs are all regular length. I've even about 1 foot each side, spare.

I did ask when buying whether clubs would fit in and based on the reply purchased a fit-through bag - never used it once so far.

Only downside is that there are no 'cloths hooks' so I can't hang up my wet gear.. the only hardship..

    What??

Well, the size of my bag is the main problem. It's a big tour bag but even with a stand-bag I wouldn't have a foot either side! Maybe the convertible has a lower but longer boot?

The boot looks a bit more square than a coupe, maybe that helps, but I do have the strength supports to contend with on both sides

I'll take a pic the next time

Yeah one of my friends has one (hatchback version). The clubs and trolley fit in there grand with room to spare. I'd imagine the saloon boot is even more spacious.

Did you actually check the size of the TT boot? It has a surprisingly big boot for a coupe (at least the previous version did). Not all, but most bags would fit in it.

Moot point now anyway. Milltown Jr.II is here now so the space required for golf gear pales in comparison to his requirements!

Its an essential part of my car purchases. I only ever consider cars if they can take my (biggish) golf bag - without removing any clubs - and with caddycar (non powered type) still attached.
