Never got into Pavement myself. I remember the gargantuan acclaim they received for Slanted And Enchanted all right.

    So, what am I missing?

Great album, probably their worst but this is a band who never made a album even close to being bad.

Has some of their best songs in my opinion ('Major Leagues', 'Spit On A Stranger', 'You Are A Light', 'Ann Don't Cry') and you have to love Malkmus' lyrics:

"Watch out for the gypsy children in electric dresses
    they're insane.
I hear they live in crematoriums
    and smoke your remains."

Love the way he delivers that line :)

Probably my least favourite Pavement album - Wowee Zowee reigns supreme for me.
Some classics nonetheless - I'd add Carrot Rope to your list Boo-yah.

Actually, I think I might prefer this album to Brighten the Corners...

Don't know much about Pavement, but would I be right in saying the lead singer has recently released a solo album?

Ya he did, called "Real Emotional Trash". I got it but I haven't listened to it more than twice yet. Haven't got into his solo stuff much yet but I'm a big fan of his last solo album "Face The Truth"

crooked rain * 2 ftw. 1st cd I ever bought. 'Out on tour with the smashing pumpkins, nature's kids, they ain't got no clue' from range life is one of the best lyrics. Cut your hair and gold soundz also great songs.

I'd say any lyrics that name drop another band, even to make fun of them, are far from the 'best lyrics' on any album, especially not this one.

TT is probably the worst Pavement album - its not terrible, but seems somewhat lacklustre compared to the others. it has some good tunes, but is not as spontaneous and inventive as the first 3 albums. I prefer Malkmus' first solo record to this - he seemed to get some of the spark back after the band broke up (or rather, after he "dissolved" the band)

Interestingly, this was the first and only Pavement album that didn't feature any songs by Scott Kannberg - in retrospect a clear sign that the band was on its way out.

Best tracks: Carrot Rope and The Hexx. Harness your Hopes, one of the b-sides from that era is also pretty good.
