Soweto Kinch -- one to watch!

Last night in Kilkenny, on a double-bill with the Kevin Brady Trio, Soweto Kinch blew us all away with a fabulous performance together with bassist Michael Janisch and host David Lyttle on drums.

This, for me, was an "all-my-dreams-come-true" gig (apart from the two women beside us chatting about somebody's wedding, and the lads heading off for Spain while chugging back Pernod on the rocks).

Kinch can deliver Parker and Hawkins, double back to pick up Coltrane and Garrett, while still having time for a urban chat, with an improv rap or two thrown in for good measure to make it a Kinch gig, and not anybody else's.

Sweet.

The highlight of the 2008 Kilkenny Arts Week as far as sounds are concerned.

Was at his gig in JJs last night but unfortunately had to leave after the first tune of the second set to get the last dart home :mad: Was really enjoying it. I've seen play at the Bray Jazz fest tice in the past with his own quartet and it was truly spectacular.

Did a great gig in Cork around 3 or 4 years ago at the Triskel (i got a nice interview with him for my radio show too, he is a good guy)

He is excellent and very unique, gotta get him down here again methinks!
