    Stoked for you.
    How is it done?

I wasn't involved in the printing - that is a long story - but it was printed on two large acrylic panels by a commercial printing company here in Dublin.

I spent a lot of Wednesday night upscaling the photograph as carefully as I could. When I was done it was more than 7000 pixels wide. It's darker than the original shot it came from but it looked far, far better than I expected given that I'd never seen it done to one of my photos and I really had no idea what to expect at all.

    Congrats on the wall.
There's a print hanging on the left, is that yours too?

All the photographs hanging on the walls (I think there are 9) are mine. That one on the left was posted here a few weeks ago. It had a black frame at the time though - I took it off for the print.

thanks a million all of you. I'm really chuffed about that one.

    I'm confused about upscaling.

Is there any real need? Surely an 8/9 MP shots is fine to print that big? Sure there will be pixelation up close but you'll usually be looking at it from far away yeah?

I just don't understand how adding in fake pixels could make it look better.

That is cool, I never seen a photo blown up so big before, it looks really good.

That picture has almost no pixellation. I wanted to try and avoid it.

The photograph it comes from was cropped left and right, so eventually, it wouldn't have been a full 3888 pixels wide even to begin with. When I checked, a two metre wide print was at 15 dpi.I didn't trust it at all.

I upscaled it in increments of about 5 per cent for a while, and then the last hop was bigger. The edges are soft, but the key test for me was whether you could read the brand on the base of the kiteboard without it being too blurry or pixellation. You can. Up close, it's a bit softer than I would have liked. The photograph was taken in very low light as well so there was some digital noise to contend with.
