I have an SX acoustic guitar and the nut broke recently.
does anyone have an ideas on how to get it off so i can bring it in to a shop and buy a new one?
    thanks

You can either get the shop to do it (which is better if you're new to this) otherwise remove the strings and gently tap the nut with a punch from the side to break the glue. You don't need much force

yeah i might give it a go
its just much easier for me not to bring the whole guitar into the shop
    thanks for the help

i got the nut for the guitar and put the strings on and i thought everything was fine but the strings are too hard to press down
is the action too high due to the new nut maybe being slightly oversized or is it the strings?
    sorry for a bit of a n00b question :P
    thanks

    what material is the nut?

if the action is too high u can get some sandpaper and use the nut on it to shave it down a little to size, just carefull not to take too much off of it

The nut is probably too high.

Can you take a photo of the side of the neck, where the strings go over the nut? If the nut is too high, your guitar will be out of tune when you press down on the strings, especially at the first fret
