Well it is highly expected that a refresh of the ipod family is happening next month. I found out from a guy i work with that the company he works for is getting new accessories ready. It seems the new one is going to have a curved back. This makes me think that it will probably be similar back to the iPhone 3G. Whats to stop this happening to all the ipods. Would give them a facelift. Anyone else hearing stuff on the grapevine?

There was a rumor that the Touch was getting a plastic curved back like the iPhone but I think it is unlikely and very unlikely for the Nano to get a curved back but anything is possible. There was another rumor that the Nano was getting a bigger screen which would be likely and another rumor of a touch screen on the Nano. It has been strangely quite on the Classic. We may see a big update with the Classic. This week should see new rumors because August is coming to an end.

I'm about to buy an ipod nano, would you recommend holding off till the new one comes out, does it just look different?

It's hard to tell what features the new one may add - the current one (3rd gen) added video playback which was not there on the previous models of the Nano, so it's pretty much a given that it's not only the looks that'll change but there might be very few new features on the other hand. However, this close to the announcement of new iPod models, you're probably better off just waiting to see what comes down the pipeline...

Io would wait too. There may be price drops and new features so it may be worth the wait.

I would hang on, even if they stick with the same it could be cheaper next month. Talk of itunes 8.0 is starting to be rumoured next month too. Syncing over wifi??

    Kevin Rose Blog
Read/watch this blog entry by Rose, it looks fake to me.

Anyone know what date the next keynote is?

It could be possible for the invitations to be released this week and the event be next week. Also, that pic of the Nano is probably fake because if it was real, Apple would of taken it down by now.
Edit: Kevin Rose is saying the event will be on September 9 which is possible.

It was around this time last year that the ipod touch first came out. I would expect the new iPod touch to have a plastic back like the iPhone 3G, while still being quite a bit slimmer, maybe a price drop? (Wishful thinking on my part).
I would think that we will be saying good bye to the classic. I would be expecting a 16 or possibly even 32 gig nano to come out.

Not a chance will they get rid of the Classic. It has the biggest capacity in the whole iPod line and many have huge audio collections. It was the Classic design that started the iPod and they won't ever get rid of it. The Classic may get a bigger screen and WiFi or even a price drop. The Touch will most likely get a price drop too along with the Nano, and it's possible that the Nano could get 16GB but I'd be doubtfull if it would get 32GB.

Engadget, Gizmodo and Ars Technica are all reporting the 9th September rumor as well - I'd say it's looking like a very likely possibility.

They are all saying September 9th because Kevin said it though. We should hear more this week.

Well he was right about a 3G iPhone with GPS tht would cost $200, the iPod Nano and a 15" MacBook Pro. He has got more things right than wrong. I listened to the TWiT podcast last night where he was talking about the new Nano and the other info he had. It all sounds genuine but we will have to wait and see.

Keynote confirmed for 9th of Sept.

Yep and engadget have pics of the new Nano cases made by a known brand, so the leaked Nano must be real.

    Looks horrible to me though.

Yep, same here - I still like the 2nd gen Nano the most (the only Nano I ever got). The "fatty" looks wonky and if the 4th gen does indeed end up looking like that... yuck.

Many hated the fatty Nano when they were leaked but when they were officially announced, they loved them.

As long as it's a bigger size, is the main thing for me

Not all of us want to sign up to a contract so the Touch is a perfect way of getting the benefits of an iPhone quite cheaply. It looks like the Touch is getting Physical buttons and the iPhone back which is good but it looks like it's going to get thicker.

Maybe a gps chip inside? It's what caused the iPhone to go that way.

I wouldn't really expect GPS TBH. It will probably be a 1.5G Touch more than a 2G Touch.
