Dont buy guitars in Argos, buy one in a music shop, and youll be able to ring it back and get something fixed if theres a problem, and youll get to know the guys in the shop, knowing the guys in Argos will be of no great service to you.

As for the guitar itself, Yamaha Pacifica id say is what you'll get reccomended on here, and a Microcube.

    *edit,

it depends what you want to play, dont just start acoustic just because you think you should if you want to play electric play electric, that said if you want to learn acoustic learn acoustic, an Oakman maybe, they do fairly nice beginner acoustics. But in all seriousness go into a shop and buy one, buying it in Argos may make you an initial saving but you'll have next to no selection.

Unless the OP wants to play an acoustic.

I won't recommend an acoustic cos it's not an area I'm overly familiar with.

I should have really said that i didn't plan on buying in argos. I just put the link there cause i want a guitar similar to that. I would probably get advice in a music shop anyway.

The main question is what's your budget?

I would sell you mine for less than 200, however the mine is electric.

you must have some desire to play the guitar to say you want to buy one and get lessons.there so many guitars bought every year that end up not being played and put into some wardrobe or attic gathering dust.
it depends what type of music you want to play and what level of aplayer you would like to become.
ask yourself these questions and then make a decision!

In that case itd probably be easier to go into a music shop and tell them this.

That style of acoustic guitar is called a Dreadnought. It's a pretty common shape amongst acoustic guitar makers. The best idea is for you to go into a guitar shop and have a look around at the guitars. Ask someone to show you a few of them.

I can't recommend the Washburn D10S Acoustic guitar highly enough. I've been playing 20+ years and recently bought one of these and it is a brilliant sounding and playing guitar. It's well inside your budget and was voted the best Acoustic Dreadnought for under $500 in Acoustic Guitar Magazine.

If not this then be sure to buy a 'solid top' guitar rather than laminate - the sound will get better with age.
