Just back from the MMA League's first event in Kilkenny and I can say that after seeing the local talent and the buzz at the event its safe to say we will return next year. 48 fighters, their coaches and supporters filled St. Canice's Hall in Kilkenny City and stuck around for the duration of the event. Some cracking matches ensued and at times the crowd was shouting so loud I couldn't here Darrgh shouting "time!" from right beside me! I thought it was a particularly good event from a spectator standpoint as there were many outstanding tussles between talented fighters. One that stood out for me was European Kickboxing Champion Vinny Di Ruscio squaring off against SBG Purple Belt Andre Ramos, striker vs grappler anyone? Cracking tilt from start to finish, and both these guys have big futures in MMA. I'd love to see that match again in a cage under full rules.
    Group Shot
As always the event couldn't have been run so successfully without the help of a couple of people
Ger Coady and Ray Dowd for organising the First Aid and the venue,
Michael Timmons for helping move the mats and his limbo efforts in Lannigan's :)
Michelle and Theresa for keeping the event running so smoothly, that we got finished so smartly was entirely down to your efforts!
Darragh Kirwan for Photography, updating the results and keeping time, some man for multi tasking I can tell you!
Clive and Barry for reffing, and a special thanks to Roper, who in conjunction with the battery on the scales dying made sure we once again missed the 12 noon start time!
Fightlord for their continued support of the League, the best submission prize (congratulations to Ciaran Gavagan from SBG!) and for a the usual high quality equipment available at the event.
    Submission of the Day

Of course it goes without saying that without the support of the fighters and coaches who made the trip through torrential rain to the venue the event could never have happened.

Good day out Mark. Despite having to drive through rivers (literally rivers) to get there, it was worth it. Some good scraps. Some of those guys looked ready for pro already. Especially that Andre Ramos guy.
