    Hey there,
    I need to find out if airlines (aer lingus and ryanair in particular) allow just one item of carry on, or are you also allowed bring on a laptop too?

    I thought it was just one item, but my friend said they allow handbags and laptop bags.

    I looked up the aerlingus Ts+Cs, but all it says is;
    8.7.1 We specify maximum dimensions and/or weight for Baggage which you carry on to the aircraft. Baggage which you carry onto the aircraft must also fit under the seat in front of you or in an enclosed storage compartment in the cabin of the aircraft. If your Baggage cannot be stored in this manner, or is of excessive weight, or is considered unsafe for any reason, it must be carried as Checked Baggage.

    Cheers

    Ryanair & Aer Lingus policy is only one piece of hand lugguage within the size and weight criteria. Nothing to stop you putting the laptop into your other bag.

    Aer Lingus tend be OK about more than one item of cabin baggage. Be careful of local restrictions though, some airports like Stansted only allow one item per passenger because of security concerns.

    I read somewhere that if you have 2 bags and need to get them onto a plane stick them in a big bin liner. No idea if it'll work or not.

    my observations during recent trips to the airport is that you'll get away with a piece of carry on luggage and a hand bag, or even a laptop bag and a bag of duty free. I'd never bring more than one piece ( i don't carry a hand bag ). Of course what del says is true, you could probably stuff 2 bags temporarily into a binbag (careful about dimensions) at the start.

    Maybe the best thing to do would be to bring a bin liner along with me anyway, and if they give me any crap, just pop the two bags in to the one :P

    You only have to look at what people travelling to the USA with EI take as hand luggage. They really take the mickey. On most airlines they would make you check in those type of bags.
