I'm looking to upgrade my current graphics card to either of the two cards mentioned in the title.

    Current Spec:
    Intel C2D E6400
    2GB DDR2
    8800GTS 320MB

I game on a 19" but have a 22" beside it which I don't use (for games) as games run on higher settings with more FPS on the 19".

Which would be the preferred card? The ATI seems to have higher everything, except ram (1GB v 512MB), but that's not a big deal as I won't be using anything above the 22". I know nVidia recently released their PhysX drivers, but I dunno how much use I'm going to get out of that. At the moment, I only play CoD4 which the current card handles fine - but I'm getting either of these cards for nothing.

It has to be either of these cards, they're the only two I won't have to pay a penny for.

    Thanks guys!

Having 1Gb of gddr is fine, being able to utilise it is another matter. You don't mention which mobo you got, Sli or Xfire. If it were me I'd opt for the 4850

Ah yeah, forgot about that. It's a HP branded Asus mobo, no SLi or Crossfire. I was leaning towards the Ati myself, I just wanted to double check.

I'd go with the 4850. That 1GB 8800gt actually performs worse than the 512MB version.

Thanks guys, I have looked at the 4870 and would rather go with that, but the place I'm getting it from doesn't stock it. I have a bit of a running set up with my being able to replace my GPU once or twice a year but only with the ones available, I could refund purchase price and get a 4870 but would lose out on this deal in the future. Not worth it IMO. 4850 it is!
