I loved English in secondary school. University English is very different. To be honest, I am completely indifferent to it.

Old English is a great course. Is that Chaucer's Cantebury Tales class with the professor who plays Frank Sinatra songs at the end of every lecture still available? That class was excellent.

As for English. The First year classes aren't great but they get better and better as each year progresses. Eibhear Walshe (DO NOT SPELL HIM NAME WRONG EVER!) is a total gent and his modern Irish novel class was amazing.

Oh to be a first year once more...

English is a great topic but the Dept. secretary can be a total hag so bear that in mind when handing in topics.

Finished first year english there, is the lecturer you're on about Andrew King? We had him in 1st Year, didn't play any Sinatra songs though! Then again, I think they switch them around. King was awesome though! :D

English is really good actually. It's different from Secondary school but I applied the same approach to it with studying and essay writing and got by it without any bother.

Then again, if you don't like it you can always switch or just stick it out for the year, with a bit of study etc it can be easy to pass. :)
