Procrastination, what's that all about?

So, I sit here on boards.ie typing crap, listening to Blink 182, and drinking lovely Fosters. My masters thesis is due in on Tuesday. I've only written half of it.

My topic was a Ph.D level topic, and I worked my ass off. I got it all working nicely and all I have to do is write up my thesis. Instead I'm doing anything else I can think of.

Now, I know I'll get it done, so I'm not worried, but it'll be a stressed scramble on Monday night.

Why do I do this to myself? Why do humans procrastinate when it makes sense to just get the thing done?

Are you a procrastinator, or do you have another flaw which messes you up? For example, getting up 2 minutes late knowing it means you'll miss your bus?

    Try the 30-pedal rule...

You set your alarm for 30 mins, work like a dog and when the alarm goes off have a pedal and crank rinse and repeat...like a sexy times reward system.

But you have to demonstrate why you're eligible to hold that domain name. Perhaps show them your boobs?

I'm a fully fledged procrastinator, I put everything till the very last minute, college work, bills, getting up, leaving, etc...

When I've something to get done I can get distracted easy.. yet when I've feck all to do.. I'm bored.. makes no sense.

    From wiki:

Procrastination is a type of behaviour which is characterised by deferment of actions or tasks to a later time. Psychologists often cite procrastination as a mechanism for coping with the anxiety associated with starting or completing any task or decision. [1]

For an individual, procrastination may result in stress, a sense of guilt, the loss of personal productivity, the creation of crisis and the disapproval of others for not fulfilling one's responsibilities or commitments. These combined feelings can promote further procrastination. While it is normal for people to procrastinate to some degree, it becomes a problem when it impedes normal functioning. Chronic procrastination may be a sign of an underlying psychological or physiological disorder.

The word itself comes from the Latin word procrastinatus: pro- (forward) and crastinus (of tomorrow). The term's first known appearance was in Edward Hall's Chronicle (The union of the two noble and illustre famelies of Lancestre and Yorke), first published sometime before 1548.[2] The sermon reflected procrastination's connection at the time to task avoidance or delay, volition or will, and sin.

    You're welcome.

    /thread.
