Hi have my GHD about two years and now its stopped working, light keeps flashing on and off, think its the flex as if I move it about sometimes it will stay on, however sometimes it wont come on at all! Has anyone encountered this problem, or is it possible to get a new flex for it?? Didn't want to have to buy another as they are so expensive.

If you phone a hairdressers' suppliers such as Terrisales they'll be able to tell you if it can be repaired.

Yes it is very much a common fault with GHDs!! happened to <snip> my GHD and to a few of my friends. I had to balance the GHD so the chord was pushing down on the connection to the GHD (if ya get me) to make it work. I think the guarantee is only for a year but you could go into the hairdressers and see if they can replace it for you. Or if you know of an electrician they might be able to fix it for you.

Dat is exactly what im having to do, have it balanced on top of one of my kids farm houses!! So annoying, theres times when it won't even turn on - n do you think i can find the gurantee - not a hope!! Great to know that it has happened to others tho, ill get someone to have a look at it. Only other option buy a new one :(

Unfortunately the guarantee is only for 2 years on a ghd and they are really strict on it. my guarantee was up by exactly a month and they wouldnt replace mine.

dont know where you are located but a electrical shop in dublin at the bottom of collins avenue in Killester fixes them. i drove up there the other day with an old one and they told me the lead was gone and would cost 35 to fix. going to get it done in a week or two which is better then 180 or whatever for a new one.

ill try remember the name of the shop and post it of i do

thanks a million ill hunt around for the shop if you don't remember the name. would be great to be able to get it fixed for that much. really don't have the money to spend on a new one, but addicted to it, couldn't live without it.

did the light on yours completely stop coming on?

mine does this! its a pain in the ass. I just tend to flex it til the light comes on and then hold it in that spot til it heats up! havent the funds for a new one
its been doing it for months but it still works perfect (I know cos I burnt myself off it the other day)

My dads is a dab hand at things like this, I'm very fortunate. I got one about a year ago and its great tho, no problems with it yet at all *touches wood*

Yep, it's a common problem, happened to my first one, I used to have to hold the flex until the light started flashing, straighten a strand of hair, then hold the flex until it heated back up and straighten again. I was a pain in the arse but it done the job, had to replace it a few months later when the plates became loose and it used to snag my hair.

Can you not use insulating tape to fix the flex into the psoition where it works? My dad did that for mine :)

I have had mine for years and it has just started doing the very same thing in the last week its very annoying. It still seems to stay hot though so I have just got on with it, I think they can be fixed, it happened to my friend's one ages ago and I think she managed to get it sorted.

There's a place in Killester in Dublin called mastercare that will fix them. I got mine fixed there last month for €30 and its like new :) I had the same problem, the light kept going off.
