Boycott!

In this coming academic year, let's all boycott the campus Spar. We all know that we've been getting ripped off for years in the place.....even do it for one day, that'll show 'em!

And no, I'm not some sort of commie or anything...I just dislike big stores like Spar, Londis etc.....

There was one organised last year or the year before, but it didnt work out, as the student tuck shop wasnt set up right, not enough people workin tills, too big of queues etc etc.......

people just went back to spar, plus, i despise the look of each worker in that shop, youd draw blood from a stone quicker than a smile or a hello from one of them

I like the rolls there too much to boycott it. And sure, maybe smile at them a little bit and they'll smile at you...

They're perfectly happy people if you're nice to them, please and thank you and stuff. One of them even knows to have a plastic cup and tea capsule ready when they see me coming to the checkout, it's great

If you're planning on boycotting bits of DCU for the prices, you're barking up the wrong tree. Try starting with the canteen.

Well what about the canteen, thats the biggest rip tbh. Its not subsidiesed as much as I think they can. Sure they made a few million I believe the other year, profit. It should not be a profit organisation, we are pooorrrr sooo poorrrr student.

I stupidly spent most of my first year in the canteen, by the time you pay for chips and goujons and garlic mayo and a drink its over 7 euro! And if you're having that everyday, it really adds up. Needless to say I spent most of second year in the gym!

Feck that. The Spar isn't too bad. The roll prices are on a par with spars all over the place.

The nursing building canteen is the worst. Was told I can't sit in their seats unless I bought something, so I bought and apple and got filthy looks. Next time I brought over a plastic chair to a table that was one of many stockpiled near the windows and was told I couldn't do that. Skimpiest sambos you've ever seen too!

Spar on campus isn't that bad. its on par to most other places. But the canteen is a joke. For somewhere "subsidized" it is a rip off.

There are plenty of places cheaper in the City center cheaper and they have city rates to pay.

It is one of the worst priced college resturantes in the country

I hate spar on campus. Prices aren't the worst on campus but its that staff that i can't stand.

The deli counter are great and will always look after you, but almost every single person that works the tills seems incapable of the simplest of niceties.

90% of the time i have bought something there the staff have not even bothered to look at you let alone say hello, please or thank you. Some of them don't even bother to tell you how you are required to pay.

Most of the time they just talk to each other, or just don't say a word throughout the whole transaction.

There was one member of staff who was always very nice, but she wasn't there as often as the others.

Bit of a rant, but that's just the way I feel about them.

Spar at Shanowen is much better, but quite far away when you have a busy day on campus.

what exactly is stopping any of you walking the 5 mins to either shanowen or the ballymun road spar shops to avail of their wares? any reasons other than laziness?

Why should we? Cummon, 5 mins.....Thats like 10 mins return. On a Tuesday thats 10 mins less drinking.....makes sence to me why we shouldnt

If I had to serve moany students all day I'd be depressed too.
