I wonder will it be back as the main student bar for the coming year?

Towards the end of last semester the 'nubar' was closed and the old bar became the venue for the 3.50 tuesdays.....

Itll be interesting, and well, im hoping that it stays this way too

Yeah i'll admit it was a bit of a shambles alright.I was only there a couple of times last year and was severely disappointed.

I'm reliably informed that the old bar will be the main bar next year.

Old Bar is opposite nubar, it's the one that is half open in the daytime for chillout/pool tables, and it kicks the arse of the nubar. Mainly because you don't need to leave to pee.

The steps leading down to the smoking section are a fatality waiting to happen. They're usually covered in drink and really slippy.

Not to mention the amount of pushing that starts once it starts bottlenecking (which it always does when there's a big crowd in). Some guy got stuck on the steps for about 5 minutes at the Halloween Ball because his costume was too big to get through.

I've been hearing the same thing.

Sadly no word on the return of 3 euro Tuesday, though... :(

Can't recall. It was a big square/rectangular cardboard outfit, it might have been the guy dressed as a pack of Benson & Hedges... or it might have been somebody else.

I do recall someone being dressed as a Rubik's cube... can't imagine he found the stairs too easy to navigate.

The other rumour floating around is that there'll be no membership fee for the bar this year, which would be a pleasant change.

are there toilets in the old bar, or just a concealed wall/urinal?

I want the old bar back. It was kinda like Fibbers, dirty, Grunge and old. That would be great if they get rid of the bar fee.

2 ladies - one beside the stage and one beside the pool room, which is also where the gents are.

I would gladly pay €5 for a drink in the old bar if it was like the good old days than pay €3 in the nubar. But even when they do open it these days, it always has trispace staff, and I wouldn't say I'm the only one who prefered the days when it was students behind the bar... My younger sister is startin this year and I wish she got to experience €3 tuesdays in the old bar... I'm defo up for €3.50 Tuesdays, may have to have one or two drinks less but it would be worth it!

Yeah, definitely. I got on really well with the trispace staff, but it's a completely different buzz when students are behind the bar. I would have happily paid €4 a drink to have had the old bar back. We were spending so much cash on pool that a few of us just got together and bought a proper pool table for our apartment on rez :D

VG79 is long since gone :( Kegs in the fridge. Pool table. Projector for watching ****. Those were the days :'( I really dont know how the **** I passed 2nd year :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭gamblitis

Oh well thats just took all the fun out of it!lol So being run by trispace will that mean there is gonna be hired staff again rather than students? Excuse my ignorance

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

You're one in a million to get along with those barstaff. I gave up when they insisted on pouring my beer from the bottle for me, with 5 inches of foam on the top and a bit of beer left in the bottom of the bottle. Stupid barstaff.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,787 ✭✭✭g5fd6ow0hseima

only going into 2nd year means i never experienced students behind the bar..... I imagine it was quite a different place owing to that! Someone told me that the new student union president had the reinstation of student staff as a priority; I wonder.

A wild cat would have more of a presence behind the taps than the staff that were there last year.....

I've heard the slipper will be doing 3euro tuesdays. they started last year towards the end of the year!and the slipper is a good ould pub

Whatt? it's nothing like fibbers unless it's completly slipped over the last few years but i wouldn't compare the 2 :P x

Heard the slipper is doing £3 Tuesdays this year too. Not sure if it's true but that was the plan for them last year. Would make a nice change anyway.
