Charger for new 80GB IPOD classic

    HI

I just bought a new 80GB IPOD classic and although I can charge the device by USB on a computer I would like to be able to charge it by a power adaptor.

I bought a non-apple USB power adaptor and although when I plug the IPOD in it turns on, I don't see the battery charger icon.

My question is do you need to have an official apple IPOD power adaptor to charge the new 80GB classic IPOD? Or could it be this other USB charger I have is faulty? Unfortunately I don't have any other USB devices I can charge on it to test.

    Thanks
    Hertz

You definitely don't have to have the official Apple charger - other USB chargers will work, though I think they have to provide the full 5V that USB can provide. The official charger is 5V, 1A by the way.

I have this (it's essentially a portable USB battery but you can use it to charge the iPod and itself at the same time, when plugged in):

so third party chargers do in fact work.
