This is just taken from a discussion from THE WIRE forum which many consider to be an original TV Drama. Some are point out how it only moves Detective series along rather then being hugely original. I think that if a drama move a genre along it becomes original. Hence The Wire is an original which breaks many of the rules…

Some are point out how it only moves Detective series along rather then being hugely original. I think that if a drama move a genre along it becomes original. Hence The Wire is an original which breaks many of the rules of the Detective serial genre.

But The Wire is born only out of dramas like Hill Street Blues and Homicide which each broke the rules for such drama's at the time of their release.
