    Hi,

first time poster, I'm doing the peoples photography exhibition for the first time this year, and i've never printed or mounted before. i need to prepare my images this weekend for printing.

i was going to buy mounts from http://www.cotswoldmounts.co.uk.

I am wondering about bleed area for hanging in mount.

do i get borderless prints? if i ask for my prints borderless will there be enough print to go behind mount for hanging? e.g. 12*8 print in 14*11 mount

If i add a bleed do i that in photoshop by extending the canvas? OR
does the printer add the bleed?

how much bleed should be added?

am i just making things way to complicated? :)

    Thanks in advance,

I'm a first timer at peoples-photography as well. Like you I have rarely printed and never mounted photos before so I'm not sure if what I did was the best approach but it seems to have worked. I bought 14*11 mounts from Cotswold, and borderless 12*8 prints. There is a small bevel and a couple of millimeters on the inner edges which hold the print in place. Takes a bit of fiddelling to get the print in place and make sure it wont slip out at one edge or other but I got the hang of it after a couple of practice goes. If you are getting slip in mounts I would not get bigger prints bigger than the specified size for that mount or they will not fit at all.

    Thanks for the info decsramble,

i just saw on their faq page that the image size is 3mm smaller like you mentioned, so i think i will be able to go with borderless prints.

Who did you use for printing?

foto.com the prints are ok for what I want, any flaws in them are more to do with my editing and laptop than the printer :)

I ordered 2 A3-size frames and mounts off these guys today. Just under €100 including shipping and I was able to specify loads of details like mount size/colour, frame type/colour, etc.

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but I'll post back again when (if!?) they arrive next week.

I can supply frames and custom cut mounts

as far as bleed, you need to allow 5mm of image in bleed plus something to attach to if the prints are being hung to the mount with double sided acid free mount tape

if they are being laminated to backing board then sandwiched to the mount they you dont need the extra, just the 5 mm

give me a shout if you need help as i can do everything from the print to the finished product

Just to follow up on my order from eframe. They arrived yesterday exactly as specified. Well wrapped, etc. So 10 days (including weekend days) is how long it took.

Without turning this into a complete plug, I'd definitely go with them again.

I'm desperate of time. So I sent stcstc a pm, hopefully he could sort out printing, mounting and framing for me for this weekend! :p
