    Help please,

I've bought the following system Dell M1730
    Specs
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.50 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 6 MB L2 cache)
    DUAL SLI 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800GTX card
    2* 200GB (7.200rpm) SATA Hard Drive
    17.0" UltraSharp™ WUXGA (1920x1200) TFT with TrueLife™ with Integrated 2.0MP web cam
    4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio
    Intel® Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-Card - Europe - Core 2 Duo Processors

I replaced one of the 200GB Hard Drives with a SDD Hard Drive http://www.dabs.ie/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=55VK and set this as my primary drive.

I then install Vista Ultimate on the SDD Hard Drive and everything looks like it has worked, until it goes to load windows for the first time. When loading the scroll bar goes across once, a blue screen flashes and then it reboots itself. This keeps reoccuring whether I have the Vista disk in or not.

What's happening? What can I do to fix this?

*It's my own original Vista copy purchased from MS and it has not been installed on any other machine

*I've ran a hardware scan on the PC and there was nothing wrong

I had a similar problem to this a few weeks ago with a hp laptop. Couldn't get it to install. I got my hands on a vista cd with sp1 slipstreamed on and that worked ok, so i reckon there were newer drivers for the sata controller on the disk with sp1. I'd recommend that as being worth a shot. You can probably build your own slipstreamed cd using nlite or a similar tool if you do a bit of googling for the correct procedure

    Regards

What's the error when it bluescreens ?

If you have another OS on the disk, try running the Vista Upgrade Advisor - not relivent for software if you are doing a fresh build but will tell you about incompatable hardware etc.

I think I've solved this. I turned off all hardware at the start up by going into configuration. Once i've installed all the newest drivers I will then try turning everything back on and hope that works......

The blue screen only flashes for a second and then disappears so I can't see what it says......

Out of curiousity is it better to install the 32bit or 64bit system?

Nice laptop btw, how much did it cost you with SSD and all?

Install 64 bit since you have 4GB of ram and a 32 bit os cannot address more than 3.25GB of ram and can only allocate 2gb per application.

Can I assume you already went to Dell and they told you the SSD issue was beyond them?

I'd say try starting in safe mode but the SSD would be a vital component so that would solve nothing. What does the microsoft site about SSDs say? What does the SSD site say?

    Approximately 2400 including the SDD........

The problem is this. Dell don't provide a graphic card driver for a 64-bit operating system with my graphic card. So for the meantime I will have to use the 32-bit system. Will this hamper my performance?

I can work it all using the 32-bit OS, the 64-bit one is beyond them. Of course for the last few days I didn't even consider downgrading and putting the 32bit in, LOL

Yes, 32 bit will be restrictive - you won't be able to use all of your RAM. You should be able to get a driver for that graphics card from nvidia - you will probably have to mess with it to get it to install though, as they deliberately prevent their reference drivers from installing when you've got a mobile gpu as they expect OEM's to distribute them.
