A straight VGA-HDMI cable is impossible since VGA is Analog and HDMI is Digital, the only way is to buy a signal converter(and cables) but they cost in excess of 100 euro.
Your Best bet is a vga -> component cable since its analog - analog
Hell you can even make it yourself with 3 phono connectors and a VGA adaptor (Maplins or peats sell these pretty cheaply) and a bit of CAT5 (ethernet) cable

Or you could buy one, but whats the fun in that :pac:

hey, I have a vga to component cable. Doesn't work as i wanted to work. You can check it, if you will be happy you can have it for tenner (cost me over 30e on ebay)

I dont know about to HDMI but even in a straight conversion to a DVI screen you start to get signal degradation: connecting my DVI Medion LCD to my Laptops VGA port gives me faint vertical lines on the LCD.

As gaff says, get a clean, possibly gold-plated RGB component cable to reduce loss in signal to your HDTV.

I tried VGA 2 HDMI convertor ON on my hdtv, works fine 4 me at 1024x768 .720x7576, resolution.Set graphics card refresh rate 2 60mhz.
MY TV manual says 4 720mode set refresh rate 2 50mhz,1080i refresh rate 60mhz max.
60MHZ IS the max refresh rate on my tv.
OR TRY SDTV RES 720X576 thru the svideo input if you have an svideo cable.
IF you download powerstrip prog, install, reboot it may allow you 2 set 50mhz refresh rate 4 720p mode.i have no vga in so my choices are limited.
